There is no secret that waking up early has incredible benefits for your mind and body, but still, people find it difficult and challenging.
Have you ever wondered why? We’ll talk about in a moment but here are my few questions for you.
What is the first thing you do right after waking up in the morning? AND at what time do you wake up on workdays?
Why do people find it difficult to wake up early in the morning? The reasons could be different for every person but the common one is because most people don’t have a proper nighttime routine. Most of us spend our nighttime watching Netflix, eating junk, sleeping at random hours, and what not.
So, when you wake up the next morning, you are not as refreshed and motivated.
If you face difficulty falling asleep fast at night then you may find the post relaxing activities before bed helpful.
Now, you might be thinking your sleeping routine isn’t as bad. You sleep early but still feel lazy throughout the day and not as energetic and productive as you want yourself to be.
Then I’m sure you are doing any of these things. Consider ditching these habits as soon as possible to improve your morning and day routine.
Because how you spend your morning determines your whole day.
7 things you should never do in the morning
Scrolling social media
If you wake up early and scroll social media laying in your bed for hours before you get off of your bed, you are killing your productivity and increasing your stress without even realizing it.
It can also be a huge time waste and honestly there’s nothing that can’t be checked later unless it’s an emergency.
Most people want to check their emails at least once in the morning. I suggest checking them after completing your basic morning tasks, like brushing and yoga.
I generally check my emails after having my breakfast but not right after waking up.
Drinking coffee or tea
We need energy right after waking up, but drinking coffee or tea isn’t a good idea at all.
I understand that many people have a habit of drinking tea or coffee in the morning.
But if your coffee or tea has sugar, your energy level will instantly go up in one moment and down the next. You then want to drink it again and again.
I personally prefer drinking lukewarm water with honey, and it works great for me. You can add lemon in place of honey too.
Not having a clear goal
What is something that you want to achieve today? If it’s not already written down. I am sorry to say this, but you aren’t really serious about it.
No matter how many books you read or follow different tips or tricks, nothing is going to change because you don’t know what is something you want to achieve by the end of the day so make sure you know what is the most important tasks you have to do today and write them down too.
Everything you could have done a night before
I prefer to write all my next day’s tasks at night. This way I don’t have to plan them out in the morning and I can start working on them as soon as I finish my other basic morning tasks/morning routine.
Avoid making a huge list. I recommend writing around 3 to 4 tasks that you can complete without overwhelming yourself.
In the same way, I’d decide what I want to wear the next day so I don’t have to overthink it after waking up.
Some people even like to plan their lunch in advance, but this is totally up to you.
Watching TV
Just like scrolling social media, watching tv isn’t a good idea either.
If you want to keep yourself updated with everything happening around the world, you can check news headlines in the evening, but doing this in the morning right after you wake up is a big no-no.
Eating junk for the breakfast
The most common reason people feel lazy throughout the day is that they don’t eat the right food. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
You don’t want to feed your body with something that isn’t right. You may eat eggs or whatever you prefer as long as it’s not empty calories.
Personally, I like to have my breakfast anywhere between 8-9 am, but I think everyone should have it before 10 am.
Never skip your breakfast.
Avoiding physical activity
Do you know that even 15-20 minutes of physical activity in the morning can help to boost your mood?
You can try these 10 simple morning exercises. All you need is a yoga mat.
You then don’t want to take a nap in the afternoon because the activity you have done in the morning will keep you fresh all day long.
Negative self talk
You should never, I mean never, do negative self-talk after you wake up because how we spend our morning time determines the whole day and if you repeat something negative to yourself, it will surely ruin your day.
Instead, you may start practicing some positive self-talk, like affirmations. If you are looking for a planner, I recommend Amazon or creative market. Currently, I am using a planner from Creative market.
Conclusion
Those are 7 common mistakes you should never make in the morning, and I am sure you are making at least one of them, but noticing it and improving your habit is something we all should do. That’s how we grow, and it feels so satisfying once you start working on yourself, right?

I need to work on not checking my phone first thing. Although I don’t scroll endlessly, I would like to not check it at all!

I’m guilty of doing a lot of these things. I tend to scope out emails first thing in the morning. I also check out Facebook too.

GUILTY. I am totally guilty of a few of these things: drinking caffeine in the morning, not having any goals for the day, and not doing anything physical.
I do meditate first thing in the morning but have been thinking about moving my yoga sessions to the morning after meditation as well.
Caffeine in the morning hasn’t helped me wake up, but I know a yoga session will. 🙂 I just “go with the flow” for my day but setting some clear goals will help with organization and time management. Awesome article, I also shared on Pinterest!
