Fall Self Care

“There is something so comforting about a cup of tea and a fall morning – they all count as fall self care to me.”

It is fall again – and when fall arrives, somehow I love the fact that I don’t have to worry about summer hot afternoons anymore. Yes you guessed it right, summer is not my season and I am not that productive during summer.

Fall is better – not too cold and not too hot, just as I like it. But when the season changes, it requires you to adapt and take care of yourself too. I believe every year, a lot of things change too – even when you do the same activities, they don’t really feel the same.

You do them differently than the previous year (have you ever noticed it?)

And it is usually a good thing – I believe it is also a sign of growth – maybe one or more areas of your life have gotten a bit easier and better, you learned something you didn’t know last year, maybe you have experienced something that didn’t exist last year.

For me each year passing by feels like an accomplishment and also due to how I have become more financially stable – though there is a long way to go.

I believe the financial situation plays a huge role when it comes to your mental peace. When you don’t have to worry about saving pennies and you can buy something for yourself and for others without regrets – especially around the holiday season, it feels easy and better.

So when you perform fall self care activities, notice how it has changed you from last year – I love noticing these little changes each year.

Below are some of my favorite self care activities that I like to do, some of these I do all the time regardless of the season, others are specific for autumn.

So here are some fall self care you can try for growth and to stay cozy as well

1) Start with your mornings

I believe fall mornings are nice and that can be a great motivation to wake up a little earlier and go for a fresh walk.

Autumn mornings are a great time for people who work office jobs and can’t have much time alone during the day – moms with family responsibilities or anyone busy during the day and evening time. These mornings can be for you even 20 minutes a few times a week will make a difference.

Here is how my morning routine looks, yours could be different from mine depending on what stage you are in your life which is normal and I hope to share it so you can find some ideas and inspiration and not to compare.

7:30 AMWater, Oral care, Stretch for 5-10 mins
8:00 AmRead/Journaling/Sometimes just sit alone for a while, Breakfast
8:30 AMShoot content for my 2 DIY sites
12:00 PMShower and skincare
12:00 AMLunch

I have always had a difficult time waking up early morning all my life due to my morning anxiety – tons of negative thoughts in my mind, questions about my career, getting scared about the future, worrying about staying behind in my life even though I know to tell myself we all have our own timing – trust me, sometimes negative thoughts are bigger and they can put you down.

I am learning to like slow mornings and I am grateful to not have to rush as soon as I wake up even if it is for 15 minutes everyday and you can enjoy your morning drink. I think it is something to be grateful for.

If you want it to take one step further, here is a mindfulness living planner that comes with a 4 page – 2 page checklist, everyday and evening planner. It tells you what mindfulness activity you can perform and why. I personally like to use these in the morning. Don’t forget to grab yours and share your feedback with me 🙂

2) Learning To Say “I Don’t Know”

In the world that is full of answers, it is okay (and sometimes crucial) that we learn to say I don’t know because that is the reality – we do not know most things.

And it is for yourself more than for someone else. We must learn to say I don’t know to our own selves – I think it is kind of a self-trust that we build when we accept that this is something we don’t know yet and this is how we make space for clarity to show up later.

I believe it also releases the pressure to pretend that we have figured it out which is a great self care in itself.

3) Dressing For Your Energy More Than Any Trend Or Occasion

I am not against following trends if that’s your thing but I really believe in dressing for your energy even when we are at home.

As someone who works from home full time, I know how it can affect mood. It can make me feel dull if I just go with the flow and dress like I don’t care. It really shows.

And you can be in your pjs and feel good but it is all about being intentional.

Looking for a cute pj set that are comfy? I love these –

Option one and option two.

4) Getting bored isn’t bad

This one I have said way more than I can count now and I am going to be honest that I am also practicing to get better here. Getting bored is actually healthy. It is not a bad thing.

If you have time to get bored, it is a good thing because it is the time when our brain processes things and repairs itself (especially when we can scroll all the time and consume something).

For some people it can feel like you could do something productive and that you’re just wasting time but trust me, it is not true and sometimes the most productive thing you can do is by not being productive.

I hope to get better at it myself so if you are not feeling “good enough” here, you are not alone and I am right there with you.

5) Getting back to basics and doing the maintenance tasks

These might sound boring but trust me, maintenance tasks are the best thing you could do for this fall for your future self and enter the new year with a more positive note.

After all, boring care is real care. So here are the boring tasks I am taking about –

  1. Checking expiry dates – not just on food, but on meds, skincare, toothbrush and emotions.
  2. Check your yearly vitamin levels and any doctor checkups.
  3. Decluttering your medicine cabinet.
  4. Writing down your emergency info and blood group.
  5. Oiling your scissors.
  6. Washing your pillowcase and sheets regularly.
  7. Wiping your phone screen.
  8. Sharpening your knives.
  9. Cleaning your hairbrush and washing your makeup bag.
  10. Updating your “In case of” contact in your phone.
  11.  Sorting your cords, cables, and chargers.
  12. Dusting ceiling fans and the top of wardrobes.
  13. Refreshing your playlists.
  14. Changing out kitchen sponges and scrubbing the sink drain.
  15.  Backing up your files.
