I think we all have that story that take you from feeling nervous to feeling empowered and in this post I am going to share one of mine.

You know, back in the day, whenever it was time to introduce myself on the first day of school, I used to get really nervous. It felt like my heart was doing somersaults!

And honestly, I hated it.

I’d always wonder, “Is this even necessary?”

It wasn’t because I had nothing to say about myself or didn’t know what I wanted in life. It was more about not knowing how to express myself.

What if I say something and everyone starts laughing? I just didn’t want to embarrass myself.

Until I graduated from high school, my English was all over the place. I’d think a million times before speaking or writing a single sentence. Yes it was this bad.

To improve that, I joined an offline institution (hoping to meet people at the same time).

After a few weeks of joining, we were told to prepare a speech in English and deliver it in front of everyone. Ugh! There are like 40-50 students.

I remember sitting with my two friends there, thinking, “How am I going to do this?”

I even considered skipping that day.

You could imagine how nervous I was!

I looked around and wondered why everyone else seemed so confident.

Am I the only one feeling that way?!

After lots of thinking, I realized that I am nervous not because I’d never spoken in front of people before but because it was something new, in a language I wasn’t very good at.

Once I got home, I was sitting on a couch and remembering my past accomplishments.

I’d took part many times in dance competitions in elementary school, danced in front of hundreds of people, won competitions and I’d even sung a song once so probably this is doable as well,

As I gained enough confidence, I decided to go the next day. After all, it was something I wanted to do.

The next day, I just did it. I was nervous, and my heart was racing, but once it was done, it felt great.

I kept telling myself, “It wasn’t as bad as I’d made it out to be in my mind.”

I learned that even though I wasn’t fully ready, it was all about taking action, and it felt like an accomplishment.

The lesson to learn here is that we’re not perfect, and we all start somewhere. It’s okay to feel nervous and it’s okay to not feel completely ready and still do it.

And no matter how many times you have already performed before, it is okay and normal to feel not fully prepared.

So, What You Can Do About It?

If you are in a similar situation as me, take a moment to reflect on your past accomplishments (no matter how small) to remember that you have done more than you realize!
