10 Fun, Free And Relaxing Weekend Activities That Don’t involve Your Phone
It’s Time To Start Living Our Weekends Again with these weekend activities – that are fun and free!
Ever find yourself saying, “Wait… how is it already Sunday night?”
I’m sure I’m not the only one feeling this way – weekends have somehow turned into recovery mode. We’re too tired to do anything, so we do the easiest thing: grab our phone and scroll… and scroll… and scroll. Then before we know it, Monday rolls around, and it’s like the weekend never even happened.
But here’s the truth: being unproductive can be productive too – when it’s intentional. Rest doesn’t always have to look like a spa day or a full reset routine. Sometimes, it just means choosing something that genuinely fills your cup, even in the smallest ways.
That’s why this post is here to help you rediscover what to do instead – offline, low-cost, and low-effort ways to romanticize your weekends again. Think of your life like The Sims for a second. Would you let your sim live their weekends the way you’re living yours right now? (Scrolling in bed until 2pm… probably not.)
Let’s bring back joy and presence to our time off. Not by doing more – but by doing things that actually make you feel good.

10 Fun Weekend Activities To Do Instead of Scrolling

Rest and recharging ourselves can look so different for everyone – and that’s the beauty of it. Whether it’s taking a solo stroll through a quiet neighborhood or spending hours laughing over board games with friends, there are so many meaningful things to do alone or with your friends that don’t require a screen. The goal isn’t to avoid your phone out of guilt, but to rediscover the joy that comes when you don’t reach for it first.
So instead of reaching for your phone this weekend, try reaching for something a little more soul-nourishing. Below are 10 ideas that are easy, low-pressure, and most importantly—actually fun.
1. Visit Antique Shops and Start an Antiques Collection
This one’s honestly one of my favorite things to do with my sisters. We love spending slow afternoons wandering through antique shops, picking out little treasures that feel like they’ve lived a hundred lives. There’s something magical about finding objects that hold history—and giving them a new story in your own space.
We like to theme our collections, too. Sometimes it’s ocean-inspired pieces, sometimes it’s little nods to Asian culture, and other times it’s just…weird stuff that kind of looks like it belongs in an alien movie. It’s a low-effort way to have fun, be curious, and decorate your space with meaning.
2. Create a Look Book for Your Outfits
Play dress up – just like you used to during your teenage years. Pull out your favorite pieces, try on fun combinations, and let yourself experiment without any pressure to be “on trend.” It’s a playful way to reconnect with your personal style and fall back in love with the clothes you already own.
You could even use this time to plan your outfits for the upcoming week. Snap some mirror photos, jot down ideas, or create a little collage—it’s like styling your own mini fashion magazine, and it makes getting dressed later feel so much easier and way more fun.
3. Go on Abundance Walks While Listening to an Uplifting Podcast
Unlike your typical “walk 10,000 steps” kind of stroll, an abundance walk isn’t about hitting a goal—it’s about shifting your mindset. The idea is simple: as you walk, you intentionally look around and notice all the little things you’re grateful for. The blooming flowers, the warm sun, the way the breeze feels on your skin. It’s a gentle reminder that there’s already so much abundance around you, even on the slow days.
Pair it with an uplifting podcast, and it becomes this soft little ritual you can look forward to. No pressure to track your steps—you can stop when the episode ends and still feel refreshed, both mentally and emotionally.
4. Explore a Night Market
There’s something so special about the charm of night lights, sizzling food stalls, and the hum of people just enjoying the moment. Night markets are full of character – you never really know what you’ll find, and that’s part of the fun.
Try visiting night markets in your local Chinatown or Muslim town, if there’s one nearby. It’s not quite the same as flying across the world, of course, but it does feel like getting a little glimpse into another culture’s everyday magic – without the plane ticket price. The smells, the flavors, the music… it’s a beautiful way to feel curious and connected again.
5. Join a Club That Has Meetups
Clubs are one of the best ways to meet like-minded people—especially if you’re craving real-life connection beyond just social media likes and group chats. Whether it’s a book club, a hiking group, or a cozy crafting circle, there’s something special about showing up and sharing a space with others who get excited about the same things you do.
It doesn’t have to be a big commitment either. Just being in the room, listening, learning, and maybe laughing over something silly is more than enough to feel connected.
6. Join Classes
Get curious—what’s something you’ve been wanting to try but keep putting off because it feels a little scary? Maybe it’s pottery, salsa dancing, writing, or even public speaking. Remember, everyone starts as a beginner. You don’t need to be the best in the room; you just need to show up for the experience and the fun that comes with it.
Trying something new is not only exciting, it’s also a beautiful way to meet people who are in the same “just trying this out” phase as you. Who knows? You might walk away with a new skill and a new friend.
7. Explore a New Town or Place
This is my ultimate favorite solo date idea. There’s something so freeing about hopping on a bus or taking a drive to a town you’ve never been to before—just you, your thoughts, and the open road. When I visit a new place on my own, it feels like I’ve discovered a little treasure or a secret hiding spot I can return to whenever life starts to feel a bit too much.
Seeing something new, even if it’s just an hour away, does wonders for the mind. It gently pulls you out of routine and reminds you that the world is still full of wonder—sometimes, you just have to go looking for it.
8. Try a New Recipe
Cooking is my own version of meditating. There’s something so calming about chopping ingredients, stirring sauces, and just letting the recipe guide you – it shifts my focus and gives my mind a break in the most peaceful way.
You can make it fun, too! Try baking something sweet, cooking a dish from a culture you’ve never explored, or creating your own twist on a favorite dessert. Whether it turns out perfect or a little messy, it’s all part of the joy.
9. Meet Up with Friends at a Café and Play Board Games
My friends and I used to do this a lot—we’d meet up at a cozy coffee or milk tea shop, whip out our phones, and play games together. It was always a good time, and we even helped each other rank up! But since this post is all about living life offline, why not switch it up with board games instead?
Playing board games is such a fun way to show off your gaming skills in real life—plus, it brings out everyone’s playful side. From strategy games to chaotic party games, it’s all about laughing, connecting, and making memories you’ll actually remember.
10. Sunbathe at the Beach
Lay back, feel the warmth of the sun on your skin, and let yourself just be. Sunbathing is one of the most effortless ways to rest—no to-do list, no pressure, just you and the ocean breeze. It’s a gentle way to get your dose of vitamin D while allowing your body to fully relax by doing absolutely nothing.
Of course, be kind to your skin—go during sunrise or sunset when the sun is softer, and don’t forget your SPF. It’s a moment of stillness that can leave you feeling recharged in the most natural way.
Final Thoughts
At the end of the day, your life isn’t boring—it’s wonderful. Sometimes it just takes stepping away from the scroll to remember that. There are so many fun, calming, and meaningful things to do instead of reaching for your phone. Life offline is still full of beauty, connection, and little adventures waiting to be tried.
All of these activities are here to help you recharge in ways that actually feel good—so you can walk into Monday with a fresh mindset, a happy mood, and the reminderthat weekends can be soft, slow, and special again.
