We are living in a time where having a clutter free mind almost seems impossible. We are constantly juggling from one task to the other every single day.
While I feel clearing physical clutter is quite easier, it takes a while and proper attention to get rid of clutter that is mental as this one tends to add up over time. And as we can’t physically see this, we don’t pay much attention either.
In this post we’ll check out some simple ways to declutter your mind and get *some* clarity.Â
Here are some of the signs you are living with a cluttered mind:
- 1) You are having a difficult time focusing on your everyday tasks.
- 2) You are feeling overwhelmed and tired all the time.
- 3) You are not able to make the right decisions. You often overthink them.
- 4) Your productivity level keeps decreasing.
What Really Causes A Clutter Mind?
You might be wondering what really causes the clutter in the first place and I truly believe anything that we do excessively in a longer period of time can cause clutter in our mind, here are a few things to look out for:
1) Juggling many tasks at once
We all have endless house and working tasks and most of us try to finish them as soon as we can. Afterall we all have limited time at our disposal.
It happens especially when we work from home but in reality it is a lot more overwhelming and energy draining.
2) Having a clutter physical place
Can we agree that we all have at least one place in our home that is full of clutter? It could be your desk, drawer or at least that one chair full of clothes.
Not only that does not look good to watch but they actually also cause clutter in your mind.

3) Content Overload
Recently, I have been spending quite a bit of time on Twitter and it has made me a bit overwhelmed. It’s not only a waste of time but it also made me realize that we are most of the time consuming content that we don’t actually need.Â
I have deleted twitter and threads from my mobile and only use my laptop to schedule posts now.
It could be Instagram, facebook or anything else for you. If you aren’t sure you can even check which app you are using the most and decide if that’s really something you need?Â
PS- Nothing in moderation is harmful though.
4) Not giving any time for drain dump
After a day of meeting with your colleagues, chit chatting with friends, content overload, do you give any time to release unnecessary stuff from your mind? Like sometimes simply observing what is going on when you go to bed at night?
5) Something unresolved that is making you worry
Sometimes there are simple everyday things that make your mind feel cluttered but there could also be something unresolved that is making you feel that way especially if you’ve been feeling that for a longer time now.Â
In this kind of situation, you may want to consider professional help. You won’t regret it, I promise.Â
6) Trying to control stuff that isn’t in your hand
This one makes us more frustrated first then it adds up over time. It happens even more when we know the situation is out of our control but still we try harder and harder to make things work the way we want.
7) Not Enough Quality Sleep
Poor sleep is one of the most common toxic habits most of us are living with. And when we are not getting enough and quality sleep, it’s so easy to have low levels of energy and have a cluttered mind.Â
8) Not having a clear boundaries
We are supposed to have boundaries not only with other people but also with our own selves. These boundaries look like how we treat ourselves: how we talk to ourselves, what we do, what we let ourselves eat, what we feed our mind, so on and so forth.
9) The way you talk to yourself
Like I have mentioned in my last point, it’s crucial to pay attention the way you speak to yourself. Especially when the time is hard and also when the time is in your favor.Â
10) Having unorganized routine or having no routine at all
Routine might seem boring as things tend to become repetitive over a certain period of time but having a routine where you are clear in your mind in terms of what the next day looks like for you is a good idea.
The kind of lifestyle we have, it’s pretty common to have a cluttered mind. It doesn’t mean something is wrong with you or you’re broken, it simply means that you are aware enough to recognize what is happening in your mind and are willing to work on it.Â

Here are some simple Ways To Declutter Your Mind (you can add these in your everyday routine)
1) Focus On One Thing At A Time When You Can
It may not be possible all the time but try to give all your attention to one task at a time when you can. This way, Your brain doesn’t waste time switching between tasks, allowing you to stay in the flow and get more done in less time. Which actually is our goal, right?Â
2) Keep Your Physical Space Organized
The first reason to have a clutter-free space is because it will save you from the hassle of finding things everytime you need them. And not just for your mind, it’s also great for your physical health too. Have you noticed how cluttered places often collect more dust?Â
3) Start Writing Down Things And Free Up Your Space
I have tons of journal prompts on this blog, and I rave about them for a reason. It’s like something heavy has been released from your mind and once it’s done, it feels much lighter and better.Â
PS- If you don’t want anyone to find out about your journal diary, you can buy one with a lock option or if it’s about a bad experience, write about them in a journal and burn that and free yourself with all the negative stuff.
4) Not Commiting To Things You Aren’t Sure Of
It’s often a better idea to say NO and protect your energy and peace rather than committing to something you aren’t sure of. Yes, there are certain situations where you can’t do this but it’s always a good idea to re-consider things before committing to them.Â
5) Not Giving Your 100% When Things Are Within Your Control
We don’t often talk about this one , but when you plan to do something and instead of taking action, you get caught up in an overplanning and overthinking zone, it prevents you from completing the task. It can also make your mind clutter, you can feel frustrated with yourself and what not.Â
If that’s your situation, consider setting smaller goals (ideally no more than 3 per day) and finish the most important task first. I think it will help you boost your confidence and you will feel much better to move on to another task and give your best.
