First off, what even is a vision board?
Most people define it as a visual representation of one’s dreams, goals, and their ideal future, but the beauty of vision boards is that it’s YOUR vision! You can really put whatever you want on your vision board, as long as it feels aligned with you.
Want to run your own business? Put that on your board!
Know what your dream house looks like? Great, add it!
Number one vacation spot? You know what to do!
Imagine what you want your future to look like – get as detailed as possible – and find images, quotes, and even just simple words that describe that vision. (Pinterest is a great place to find lots of inspiration!)

Why should I make a vision board?
Be creative
One reason to make a vision board is that it’s a perfect excuse to get creative and have fun! Even if you’re not super artsy-fartsy, you’re sure to get inspired while creating a vision of what you want your future to look like.
You can make it as aesthetic or as hodgepodge as you want; do what feels fitting for you!
Add pictures, quotes, cute little doodles, anything that makes you happy and excited for the future. (:
Define your goals
Making a vision board can help you define your dreams, hopes, and goals. If you have a lot of different goals you want to accomplish throughout your life, a vision board is a perfect way to get all of these put into one place.
I know personally, I have many goals for my life, some of them closely related and others completely separate from each other. Because of this, it’s hard to keep all of them organized and at the forefront of my mind when making decisions and habits that will directly affect how quickly I reach these goals. Having a ton of goals that are all over the place makes me feel completely scatter-brained!

Making a vision board really helped me solve this problem because now, all of my goals are in the same spot. I know exactly what I envision for my future, and it makes it easier to remember what I need to do to get there.
Stay focused & motivated
Once you create your vision board, it’s common practice to place it somewhere you’ll see it as often as possible so that you’ll be reminded of your goals all the time. This may be your bathroom mirror, right next to your bed, or above your desk. You could even set it as your screensaver on your phone or laptop!
Being reminded of your vision for the future will help you stay focused on your goals, and it’s likely to keep you motivated as well.
Maybe you’re not feeling too inspired one day, and you decide to skip a workout, even though you know you’re totally capable of doing it. And then you catch a glimpse of your vision board, which has images of someone running a marathon or lifting super heavyweights, and you get the boost of motivation you need to get your workout clothes on and hit the gym.
Whatever your goals may be, we all need that extra little kick in the rear every once in a while, and a vision board can really help with that.
How do I make my own vision board?
Like I said earlier, however you decide to create your personal vision board is totally up to you. I made my own vision board digitally, but you can also make a physical version. Here are some of my favorite vision board tools!
Canva is an amazing tool for creating everything from Pinterest Pins and Instagram posts to resumes, and yes, even vision boards!
You can look up vision board templates on Canva, or you can make one that’s completely your own by starting off with a blank template.
Unsplash is a great place to get beautiful, free stock images! Some of the pictures I used on my own vision board were from Unsplash, and I also use this website for most of my blog photos.
Pinterest is another great place to look for vision board inspiration. There are so many aesthetic, picture-perfect images on Pinterest; that you’re sure to find exactly what you’re looking for.
If you’re looking for quotes to put on your vision board, Pinterest is perfect for this as well!
Magazines
If you want to go the old-school route, cut out magazine pictures for your vision board! Anything you can find that aligns with your dream future: a fashionable outfit, an inspirational word, or even a delicious-looking meal.
Presentation board
Again, if you’re going old-school with your vision board (nothing wrong with that!), grab a presentation board at your local craft store, so that you have tons of space to work with. Remember, the more detailed your vision board is, the better!

Remember that this vision board is for YOU and YOUR FUTURE. It’s not about anyone else, so don’t worry about how it looks to the outside world; you are the only person who needs to love it.
And please don’t let your limiting beliefs scare you into leaving some of your goals off of your vision board. If your dreams don’t terrify you (even just a little bit), then they’re not big enough!
